The “Interstate Four ghost” is the typical stuff of urban legend: a half-remembered ancient crime, sightings of a ghostly woman on the side of the highway. What else is a bunch of college kids to do, but check it out? Mayhem and chills naturally ensue.
A surprisingly touching love story between the human girl and the centaur futanari
A sexy centaur with a surprise package makes for a surprisingly sexy story
Kel has been a fan of jousting champion, the centaur Taria, ever since she was a little girl. Then a chance encounter in the city brings them together. Kel’s suddenly finds her wildest dreams coming true. She not only becomes Taria’s new squire, but also discovers that this centaur lady has a secret – a magnificent horse cock!
Like “Leon, the Professional” minus the light-hearted gaiety
Taming mAlice: Darkest Hearts Book 1 – W. Noir
A murderous baby-doll raised in isolation by an assassin, and a cold-blooded hit-man whose only friend is a sadistic serial-killer might not seem to be the stuff of romance, but W. Noir brings this unlikeliest pair together in a darkly steamy story that grips the reader and doesn’t let go.
The old stories are rarely the worst for being retold again and again
Beauty and the Beast: Book 1 of the Frisky Fairy Tales by Nikki Dean
The old stories are rarely the worst for being retold again and again, just so long as the retelling is good. And in the hands of Nikki Dean, the retelling is very good indeed.
This one isn’t romance, per se, and especially not erotica. But it is a great collection of SF that you should check out.
Some of the stories do have a romance theme, or at least subplot. The Analogue Cat is a beautifully tragic romance, while A Bedsheet for a Cape in part explores the ramifications of romantic attraction between humans and intelligent, genetically engineered creatures.
Good writing, but story flags in comparison with the first
UNICORN: Horn of Lust by Cecilia Chase
While on the one hand, I appreciated that the author expands the universe of the first book, and creates actual characters, not just cardboard cutouts that are lined up to be had sex with, overall this installment of the series just seemed to drag. Nonetheless, the writing and characterisation are miles above the standard of most Kindle erotica.
The First Taste is Free (The Pixie Chix Book 1) by Zephyr Indigo
While the sex scenes are OK, the story is witty and fresh, the characters are engaging, and the writing is excellent. I’ll definitely be buying the next in the series on the strength of this free sampler.
Update: I bought the next in the series, and the sex scenes got even hotter, without sacrificing the story.
Werewolf Romance: Seduced by the Alpha Wolf Bk1 by Kaycee Kline
I’m rating this 4 rather than 3 stars because I think that, for what faults this book has, as a debut its virtues and its promise are worth the extra star.
If Lord Dunsany had written porn, this would be it
This is a fascinating short, which mashes the genres of weird fiction, fantasy and erotica in a dreamlike phantasm. If Lord Dunsany had written porn, it would probably have been something like this.
Monstrous Lust: The Festival of Taboo Carnal Lords by E. M. Beastly
The dreamlike quality of the story also puts me in mind of Neil Jordan’s subtly erotic 1984 movie, The Company of Wolves – although there’s little subtle about the eroticism of “Monstrous Lust’ – and that’s the way, uh-huh, uh-huh, we like it!
The story is at once simple and weird – an ordinary mountains town slips into a dream-state where only a select company of the wild women of the town remain awake to greet the forest gods who move in, to celebrate their festival of lust.
And celebrate, they do. If weird monster sex is your thing, this story will do it for you.
A fantastic debut novel that goes above and beyond its genre
This debut novel from Sophie Brooks had me hooked from the first few paragraphs, and its charm (no pun intended), clever story and thoroughly engaging characters kept me turning pages as few other books have done in a very long time. This is not just one of the best romance stories I have ever read, it is an excellent book that exceeds its genre to be Just A Good Book, period.
